It didn't take much to notice that people without blogger accounts were suddenly signing up to drop me comments, two of the most notable being Monster from Morsus Mihi and ilikepie from wherever. Doing a show info on their profile revealed no posts, no blogs owned or followed, and profile views under 10.
Like I said, pretty clear. I appreciate the fact that people went to enough trouble to create blogger accounts solely to drop comments (maybe just for me, maybe not), but it leaves me wondering about the 99% of people who don't do that.
To that end, I've enabled anonymous comments. All I ask is that you sign your comments with an identifier, preferably your EVE main character name. However, if I start getting trolls all of a sudden, I'll disable automatic approval and enable approved comments only. Let's not live under bridges, ok?
If you already have a blogger account but no blog, I strongly encourage that you create a blog. I personally like to read the battle report blogs more than metagaming blogs, but I'll be honest, the metagaming blogs get alot more attention, not to mention there's a great deal of them on the blogpack Rixx has.
That said, I pretty much don't read anyone on the blogpack. Maybe 1, maybe 2, I'm not real sure and am too lazy to check. But when half or more of the blogpack is metagamers, and they all talk about the same stuff at pretty much the same time, I don't find a real point. 1 is enough. If metagaming is your style, just be aware of your competition, and that with the number of them out there, you'll probably drown in the mix.
If/when you do create your own blog, be sure to give it it's own unique twist to seperate it from the 200+ other active eve blogs out there. If you want readers, you need that pzazz.
With that, I'll close this out with a question: What do you like about my blog and what would you like to see more of?
Didnt feel like logging in tbh =P
ReplyDeleteBut I enjoy the writing style for battle reports and such. Im with you on the not really caring about the meta gamers opinions and views; moreso on the stories of the players.
The lore is pretty deep in EVE and is what makes me want to be a part of it, however small a part I play.

Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI always encourage sites to weight the added participation against obvious trolling brought with anonymity - and remember you can delete outright rude comments.
Please share your idea with the other bloggers!

There's only one meta-game blog that I follow, and Jester is a special case. Otherwise, I like the down to earth (so to speak) blogs like yours; pilots like me dealing with the kind of fights and issues that I deal with.
ReplyDeleteThat's not to say I want to read only about people just like me, it's that I want posts about things similar enough to what I do that I can actually relate (ie, care).
I’ll throw in my 0.2 ISK here...
ReplyDeleteI was very pleased/surprised when you first commented on my blog Tru... I had only one “follower” at the time, a friend who started his own blog in response to mine, but he has never posted ANYTHING on his since, LOL...
So you were the 1st ‘commenter’ I had, and still 50% of them that have commented at all. Just FYI, but this may be what, the fifth time I have posted a comment to any blog meself... =\
Its not that I dunt get comments... just the majority of comments I receive are from corpmates, allies & friends in chat and TS (cause I can’t ‘moderate’ 'em there) and in the time honored TROLLAGE format... LOL.
To answer your question...
I follow your blog cause you commented on mine, =] But I do like your writing style and your logs although I can’t really follow a lot of what you talk about as I am not a nullsec dweller and nullsec politics are, for me, on the edge of the map where it says, “Here be Dragons”...
You said the metagaming does not interest you as much as combat reporting. I however, want to read about the whole experience we each have in EVE. Strict combat only reporting is just about ALL you could do in a blog about say, Quake or Halo as that is ALL that happens there.
EVE is so very much moar… there is so much more to experience, hence so much more to talk about. I would like to know more about your “life” here… the funny stuff, the weird stuff… all of it. But that’s me. =]
Tru, I’d really like to hear your answer to your own query… an I’ll raise ya one, for the bloggers out there: “Why did you start your blog? What do YOU, the blogger, like to write about and why?”
To wit... I started bloggin ‘cause I consider myself an “aspiring writer”... (IE: I breathe a lot while trying to write, let’s see who gets THAT one). I got hooked on reading at 6 when I found my older brothers Sci-fi collection.
Ever since then I read, in a way that can only be described as ‘voraciously’. I have always dreamed of writing as interestingly as Heinlein, Asimov, Niven, Scalzi or Sterling… but along the way I discovered you write best when you write about what you KNOW.
Most (not all but the vast majority) of sci-fi writers work, teach or study in a science related field. I am a computer tech… which has given a few ideas, but nothing that ever came to fruition.
I had started another blog, “The Currrved Surface” after I finished my 1st short story… but it never went anywhere after that. Then I entered EVE... after but a short time ingame I discovered I had STORIES to tell and THINGS to say. LOL...
I had finally found the ‘experience’ I needed to write about sci-fi so I started “A CARBON Based Life” and I haven’t looked back since.
And I just read back thru my “comment” and realized why I dunt comment much… I tend to POST, instead of just ‘comment’… LOL
Fly safe, and see you in the Sky =/|)=
